"Do you trust me?"
When she awoke, a letter with that one simple question and a linkshell pearl awaited her one morning on her bed. They replaced the usual warm body of her beloved companion and lifelong friend.
Moons upon moons have past since that jarring morning. To this day she continues exploring across Eorzea in search for her partner, and to find out what the letter he left means. When she tells her motives to fellow explorers and adventurers, she's often met with doubt and cynical remarks.
There have been incidents where she's almost certain she heard noises and whispers coming from the linkpearl. These occurrences have started to happen more and more frequently, causing her to have restless nights in hope of hearing her companion for a moment.
Whether or not these noises are truly real is not certain. The mind does like to play cruel tricks on us from time to time.
